African Area Studies requirements and additional rules
The department requires at least six courses and 20 credits: two language courses (8 credits), two core courses (6 credits), and two electives (6 credits). At least three counted courses must be at the 300 level or above and at least three must be outside the major. Every counted course needs C or better. These are overlapping checks on the six courses, not three extra upper-level courses. Confirm catalog applicability and any approved substitutions with the program.
Stored catalog (Fall 2006; observation date unknown): The stored tree has two language courses, two core courses, two electives, and a three-course upper-level check. It does not encode the full credit, grade, or outside-major rules.
Calculations use the checked-in snapshot. Confirm affected groups with your adviser.
